The FutureCycle Poetry Book Prize

FutureCycle Press conducts a full-length poetry book competition open to any poet writing in the English language. We offer to the winning author a $1,000 prize, publication in both print and ebook formats, and 25 copies of the printed book. We sometimes also offer publishing contracts to the top finalists. The contest is open from January 1 to March 31 each year; entries received outside of this submission window will be considered a general submission to the press.

To enter the competition, and in lieu of entry fee, you must purchase a poetry bundle (see below) for each book submitted.

Manuscript Format

Manuscripts should be 48 to 70 pages in length, excluding front matter such as acknowledgments, title page, etc. The manuscript should contain a title page with your name, address, email address, and phone number.

Also include an acknowledgments page listing the names and titles of any poems in the collection that have been previously published.

Please do not double space the text of your poems, except between stanzas and after the title.

Poetry Bundle

The winning manuscript is published over the summer and is then available for purchase individually or as part of one of our $25 Poetry Book Prize Bundles:

The Sampler Bundle ($22 + $3 shipping; please allow up to four weeks from purchase date)
  • One copy of No Loneliness by Temple Cone (2009 FutureCycle Poetry Book Prize Winner)

  • Our choice of an issue of FutureCycle Poetry (printed issue of our online magazine) or a book or chapbook from our list

  • Free entry of one full-length poetry manuscript in the current or immediately upcoming FutureCycle Poetry Book Prize competition, if desired

The Winner’s Bundle ($22 + $3 shipping; ships after publication of winning book manuscript)
  • 2010 FutureCycle Poetry Book Prize Winner (publication scheduled for August)

  • The most recent issue of FutureCycle Poetry (printed issue of our online magazine)

  • Free entry of one full-length poetry manuscript in the current or immediately upcoming FutureCycle Poetry Book Prize competition, if desired
These discounted bundles give poets wishing to enter our competition a good sense of what kinds of work our press is interested in and the choice of entering either the current or next year’s competition. All purchases help support both our press and the poets we have published.
Note: The poetry book prize bundles are offered in lieu of typical contest entry fees; however, to be eligible to enter the book competition, you must purchase a bundle before you are eligible to submit a manuscript. You will receive one submission credit for each bundle purchase. This credit can be used for anyone's entry; however, the email and shipping addresses supplied at the time of purchase must be used for any subsequent correspondence. All contest rules and guidelines apply.

2009

Our 2009 winner is No Loneliness by Temple Cone. Beyond the Bones by Neil Carpathios, a finalist for the prize, was also selected for publication by our press.

2010

Submissions are accepted beginning January 1, 2010, with judging commencing at deadline for entry, March 31, 2010. To be eligible, you must have one Poetry Book Prize Bundle credit for each manuscript submitted.

Our 2010 winner will be announced and the book published over the summer. As detailed in our general submission guidelines, we prefer electronic submissions but will consider printed manuscripts submitted by mail with the understanding that, should the author's work be chosen for publication, a suitable electronic version must then be prepared in a timely manner at the author's expense.

We encourage poets to read our online magazine and check out our publications for examples of the kinds of work we like.
